2012 IIDA Northland Chapter Student Scholarship

Grand Prize: $2000
Runners Up: $500

IIDA Northland Chapter with generous sponsorship from HGA has created a design award for IIDA Northland Students. Each entry is judged for the success with which the project has met the design requirements and exhibits a creative and dynamic approach to branding and interior design.

Registration is due by February 1, 2012.

After submitting a registration form you will recieve a Registration Number, along with the Entry Form, detailed design criteria, submission requirements, and floorplan.

Student Design Award Submissions are due by 5:00 pm February 15, 2012.

The Award:

The wining entry will be selected by a panel of reviewers represented by the following organizations: Past IIDA Northland Chapter President, and HGA. The scholarship winner is to announced in early April 2012. The winner will receive the scholarship at the 2012 FAB awards on April 19, 2012 and will sit with the sponsors of the scholarship.

Project Narrative and Design Criteria:

You will receive the full project narrative and design criteria after your Registration Form is received, but here is a brief summary:

Jostens, Inc. is remodeling the public areas in their corporate headquarters. Jostens may be most well known for their yearbooks and class rings, but their business includes many other divisions, including championship rings and photo announcements/invites. Jostens’ mission is to support the missions of their clients. The design solution should show that the submitter understands Jostens’ business divisions, as well as their mission and values.

The interior environment should be dynamic, fresh and youthful, telling the Jostens story in an innovative, interactive way. All aspects of Jostens’ business should be incorporated into the design solution. Sustainability is also important to the client. Finishes, materials, and furniture should be reclaimed or recycled, chosen carefully to support the Jostens story. The indoor air environment should be healthy and free of chemicals.

Qualifications:

  • Entrant must be an interior design student enrolled at a school, in the IIDA Northland Chapter territory, that offers a minimum of a 2-year degree in interior design.
  • All entries and materials become the property of IIDA Northland, and each entrant upon submission waives and relinquishes all rights thereto and assigns such rights to IIDA Northland.  IIDA Northland may publish, use, disclose, assign, license or otherwise transfer any such entries and materials and/or any or all rights in such entries and materials.  Entries and materials will not be returned.
  • IIDA is not responsible for any loss or damage to entries incurred during shipping.
  • If any applications or requirements are not met, or entry rules are not followed, the submission is subject to dis­qualification at IIDA Northland's discretion.
  • By submitting an entry, Entrants agree to keep confidential the identity of the project client. In no event shall an Entrant publish (virally or otherwise) his/her entry with the client name, logo or other identifying features. The submission may be used in the Entrant’s portfolio (virally or otherwise) but the client must remain confidential.

Provided Tools:

Upon IIDA Northland's receipt of submitter’s Entry Form, IIDA Northland will email an AutoCAD file of the project floor plan. This floor plan coordinates with the project space program. All existing walls and doors are to not be altered.

This scholarship provides crucial financial support for an aspiring designer to complete his or her education. Congratulations to the winner of the 2011 IIDA Northland Chapter Student Scholarship competition, Amber Eldridge. The 2011 scholarship was sponsored by HGA, Ditty Rehkamp & Nemschoff, in partnership with the IIDA Northland Chapter. The focus was healthcare design, recognized as an important emerging segment in design. Amber is a student at Dunwoody College of Technology in Minneapolis. The award was presented at the FAB Awards ceremony on April 7, 2011.
