JOB DESCRIPTION

Primary purpose of this position is to give an Interior Design student or recent graduate the opportunity to work with the Workplace Strategy and Resource team and get experience in the industry. Intern will work closely with the Resource Coordinator to maintain and improve the Resource Library, and will further support Designers, Sales Reps and the Resource Coordinator with other tasks as required. This is a paid internship.

WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING:

  • Monitor and maintain all Herman Miller product literature and fabric/finish sample areas.
  • Monitor and maintain literature and fabric/finish samples from ancillary (non-Miller) vendors.
  • Keep library and related areas and workspaces neat and organized.
  • Perform other duties on daily/weekly Intern Task List.
  • Prepare color and finish boards as requested by Design or Sales.
  • Run prints as requested.
  • Assist with field verifications.
  • Order materials samples as requested, including testing samples.
  • Develop and update project spreadsheets.
  • Perform other tasks as assigned.


WHAT YOU SHOULD HAVE:

  • Working toward obtaining, or has recently obtained, a degree in Interior Design, and should view this position as temporary
  • Ability to learn quickly to be able to perform the varied and complex requirements of the position
  • This person should be eager to experience a wide range of tasks, work with multiple Intereum teams and manufacturers, and be self-motivated, with direction as appropriate.
  • Demonstrates commitment to professionalism, integrity and sound judgment.

Cunningham Group Architecture - Design Intern

Description:

Cuningham Group interior design interns primarily work in partnership with the interior design staff.  They perform a variety of tasks that are split between the interiors library duties and assisting the interior design staff in fulfilling their project duties.  This wide variety opens up an understanding of the full breadth of knowledge and skills that we, as interior designers, are expected to have.

WHAT YOU WILL DO:

  1. Maintain organization of the interiors library including:  filing, ordering refills, purging, soliciting reps for retrieval of products.
  2. Respond to, coordinate and attend rep requests for 15-minute “info” meetings and lunch-n-learns.
  3. Assist in selection of materials and production of material boards and control books, as directed by upper level staff.
  4. Assist in various design tasks (i.e.: sketches, floor patterns), as directed by upper level staff.
  5. Provide general office assistance as part of exposure to overall running of an architecture firm.

WHAT WE LOOK FOR:

  1. Enrolled in a Bachelor or Masters degree in Interior Design from a college or university that is accredited by the Council for Interior Design Accreditation or an equivalent quality program OR
  2. Recently graduated with a Bachelor or Masters degree in Interior Design from a college or university that is accredited by the Council for Interior Design Accreditation or an equivalent quality program.
  3. Proficient in AutoCAD, Revit, Microsoft Office applications, aptitude in one or more of the following:  sketch-up, Adobe Photoshop, Acrobat, InDesign, Illustrator, etc.
  4. Ability to communicate, both orally and in written format, ideas and information effectively with co-workers, reps and vendors.
  5. Self-motivated, asks questions and seeks out tasks when has “downtime”.
  6. Flexibility in a fast-paced environment that will require multi-tasking and a “can do” attitude.

General Office Products - Design Intern

Description:

Responsible for supporting our designers and other team members.  Manages the resource library and assists with showroom preparations for client tours.  Engaged in vendor presentations and other available learning opportunities.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Keep resource library organized, up-to-date and supplied with current samples, including the Steelcase fabric/finish library files, literature and Design Workroom finishes.
  • Meet with materials reps, as needed, to update fabrics, laminate, paint, flooring samples and other miscellaneous lines.
  • Assist in researching products and material solution for client projects.
  • Aid in preparation of project presentations, finish boards and finish selections. (Physical boards and/or electronic PowerPoint documents).
  • Assist in showroom preparation for client tours.  
  • Assist design team with delegated project work, on-site field measures and Steelcase product inventories.
  • Attend vendor meetings and seminars within the company for self-development.
  • Introduction to CET software.
  • Maintain detailed daily logs within MxT software to track time spent on client projects.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • College Junior or Senior, working on a Bachelor of Arts or Science Degree in Interior Design from an accredited program.
  • Good communication skills and time management.  Ability to take direction and follow through with a given task.
  • A self-starter with a positive attitude, team player mindset and an eagerness to learn.
  • Must present professional company image at all times.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office products.
  • Ability to lift up to 30 lbs.

Preferred Qualifications:

Class schedule that coordinates with internship schedule, enabling consistent work hours.

Physical/Mental Demands:

This position can be performed while standing or sitting.  Occasional bending, twisting or reaching.  The ability to climb stairs is required.  Occasional lifting may be necessary up to 30 lbs.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and peripheral vision.  The ability to talk, listen, read and write are important functions of this job.  Reasonable accommodation may be made to allow individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

Working Conditions:

This position is an office based position with occassional travel required within the Metro area.  No out-of-state travel is required.

School Year:  Part-time- Flexible schedule 12-15 hrs/week

Primary Responsibilities

In the role of Intern Interior Design, we’ll count on you to:

HGA Architects and Engineers - Student Intern
