On Monday, June 6th, 2009 over 50 design industry professionals and students joined IIDA Northland Forums in touring the 2009 FAB Retail / Restaurant Award Winner, OPM clothing boutique by 20 Below Studio.
Jennifer Pedtke, LEED AP, Assoc. AIA of 20 Below Studio discussed the design process and how she met the owners desire for an upscale clothing boutique in Minneapolis, that one would expect to find in San Francisco or New York. The team at 20Below Studio incorporated design features into the environment that enhance the customers shopping experience, maximize display space and storage and provide flexibility for fashion shows. The owners Susan and Isaac also spoke about how the successful design positively impacted their business and how the design process was truly a collaboration.
OPM's innovative design surpasses the basic needs of a traditional boutique space and has quickly become a local fashion institution in a hip retail community in Minneapolis. The design for OPM presents a combination of interesting materials, innovative use of space, and a non-traditional approach to design; it truly takes the ordinary and makes it extraordinary - a couture space on a bargain shopper's budget.
