The designer was asked to help turn the historic Beaux-Arts public library into a small family foundation office. The space functions as offices for the employees as well as a comfortable, practical space for board members to hold meetings and give presentations. The client wanted to update the building while restoring and preserving its’ historic detailing and asked that updating be done in such a way as to recede into the background. Glass walls were used in areas to accomplish this, while giving sound barriers between the offices. An addition was built to house an elevator for handicap accessibility. The client is a collector of modern art and wanted a ‘gallery” space to showcase his collection. Classic contemporary furnishings were used as a compliment to the collection and act either as art or sculpture themselves. This was seamlessly accomplished while complying with strict LEED parameters.
