The goal of the project was to create a warm, sophisticated, inviting interior that supports a bachelor’s 30 something lifestyle while adhering to the geometry and context of the building and the neighborhood.
There is a strong structural rhythm in the building, which expresses itself in the unit as structural concrete bracing that act as bookends; these structural elements were left unadorned and were used to organize the interior spaces.
The building is sited to take advantage of the commanding views of the Minneapolis skyline. To fully engage the views, the public spaces were planned on the east side of the floor plate. The private areas of the loft were positioned on the west side, or quiet side and contain the bathrooms and laundry rooms. This organizational language creates a solid mass that grounds the unit.
The fireplace, provides an edge that defines the main circulation space and separates the public and private zones and terminates into the client’s prized wine collection. This is a focal point for the client’s social gatherings and fundraising events.
