The property consists of three warehouse buildings constructed in 1931, 1910, and 1909. Our architectural and interior design team collaborated with preservation consultants to restore the original designs of each building while incorporating a new live-work environment. This task required historic research, extensive environmental clean-up, removal of non-contributing elements, and new construction compatible with the historic character. Vacant space on the block allows for future construction that will reinforce the historic character of the area.
In Phase 1 of the Carleton Place Artist Lofts three historic warehouses were converted into 169 industrial loft-style affordable rental living units with comfort features and state-of-the-art amenities for the artist community. The Fresh, Artistic and Brilliant lofts feature concrete floors and open plan designs, an inspired community room, colorful and imaginative corridors with art exhibit space, a dry room for kilns and pottery, a flexible hard-wood floored studio serving dancers and gallery exhibitions, and a studio designed for band rehearsal. The design intent was to create a strong artist community within the building. The project is master planned into phases, where at its full development, will add two future market-rate residential projects of approximately 95 units each, where the entire development would reach a total of 360 units.
