Teams of Interior Designers will develop a concept for a single lounge. These rooms act as living rooms for guests. Teams will be able to implement their design with construction complete in March of 2011, just in time to present the results at FAB! All products and services will need to be donated. IIDA is compiling a list of available donations for teams to work with and teams are encouraged to secure donations of specific items or services unique to their project. IIDA Northland will work with teams to secure any necessary products or services for their designs.
The Target Corporation is generously donating to the project and IIDA is looking for all our industry partners (designers, manufacturers, contractors) to support this exciting community outreach project through design, product donations, installation services, & financial support. Registration will be open Friday, Oct 22nd with Design submissions due December 13th. For more information, contact Megan Duffy (mduffy@bdhyoung.com) or Lisa Kirkbride (lkirkbride@knoll.com)

People Serving People provides emergency shelter to 99 homeless families every night in Hennepin County. Located in Downtown Minneapolis, this 10-story building is essentially a hotel whose primary form of hospitality comes in helping families to overcome homelessness. Families come to the shelter because of landlord foreclosures, job loss, financial crisis, evictions, overwhelming medical expenses, etc – and they leave with stronger community connections, dedicated advocates, employment, stable housing, and a chance at a better future. The heart and soul of People Serving People's work is the time spent on strengthening the futures of the 200+ children at the shelter every day – through early childhood education, healthy meals, volunteer readers and tutors, healthcare, family activities, school transportation, and stabilization of family life. Everyone deserves to have a place to call home – and People Serving People depends on the community's support to help families find their way home.
The goal of the project is to allow the Interior Design community to use their specific skills to enhance the lives of the residents at People Serving People by designing and renovating the shared lounges. The shared lounges act as the living room for the families who are staying in the resident rooms.

Do we need to have a general contractor on our team?
For the conceptual submittal due December 1, you do not need to have any vendors, suppliers or specific products secured. If your team is selected to complete your design, you may opt to include a general contractor as you see fit. The intent of the project is for a refresh of the space including finishes, furniture and accessories. This may also include some custom millwork and new lighting as you see fit.
Will IIDA provide some items or services for us to use in our designs?
Each selected team will be given a $700 Target gift card for their use. IIDA is also collecting a list of industry partners who have offered to donate either specific materials/items or a certain value of products/services. This list will be available on the website and will be updated periodically. Again, no specific item or service can be claimed until after finalists are selected. You can solicite specific material donations that meet your design if they are not available on the list.
Will we be able to visit the site to verify or take pictures?
Selected teams will be able to do so after December 10, 2010.
Will our team have to coordinate all the work on the project including deliveries and installation?
Yes. The intent is for the project to be simple enough that a team could manage the delivery and installation of their materials. A specific construction schedule will be developed after final submissions. A team is able to do painting or other similar tasks themselves and expected to engage the donated services of a professional for items such as electrical, millwork or items concerning safety.
