On Monday April 6th, 2009, Wynne Yelland of Locus Architecture Minneapolis and his family welcomed IIDA Northland First Mondays to nowHaus01, a sustainable urban dwelling in Minneapolis. The program began with Wynne describing the journey that lead to the creation of this innovative dwelling, design and construction process and was followed by a tour lead by the Yelland family and pup Dodger. The project's innovative use of material and a modern twist on Minneapolis' residential vernacular in encompassed in the residences sustainable design strategies.
LOCUS Architecture, a Minneapolis firm committed to building the art of sustainability, is the creator of nowHaus – an initiative to reinvent the urban family home in a more artistic and sustainable manner.
nowHaus01 is a synthesis of fanciful loft and practical family basecamp. Kaleidoscopic art and green design. Radical new techniques and reused materials. nowHaus 01 is the first in a series of singular homes that celebrate modern, sustainable city living—conceived and built by LOCUS Architecture. This dramatic rebirth of a 1950s rambler near Cedar Lake manifests their core principles—and some of their most intriguing ideas.
