Spring 2010
FAB Awards
by Nick Nelson, FAB Awards co-chair
On Thursday, April, 8th, over 370 members of the design community joined IIDA Northland in recognizing fresh, artistic, and brilliant interior design at the FAB Awards. In addition to celebrating excellence in interior design, this sold-out show recognized IIDA Northland's commitment to education, philanthropy, volunteerism and leadership in the design community. We were honored to have IIDA Executive VP and CEO, Cheryl Durst FIIDA present the 2009 Small Chapter of the Year to IIDA Northland as well as the Volunteer of the Year and Lifetime Achievement Award. The chapter also recognized the 2010 Charity Project and Student Design Scholarship recipients.
Jurors Pam Light FIIDA of HOK, Kelly Bauer of Richard + Bauer, and Iain Thorp of Haworth met the day before FAB to deliberate and select winners for each respective category. Our Master of Ceremonies, Yen Chee, guided the audience through each category announcing the winners. The jurors then added commentary at the show with explanations of what they saw as fresh, artistic and brilliant in the winning entries. New in 2010 was the IIDA Northland Member's Choice Award, which allowed IIDA members to recognize excellence in their peer's work. The 2010 FAB Awards winners will be featured in a full color insert in the May 14th issue of the Minneapolis-St. Paul Business Journal.
This event would not be possible without the exceptional work of our committee and generous support from our sponsors. Special thanks to our 2010 FAB Awards host sponsor, Haworth.
